Formula D Series Events and Places

Formula D Racing, a.k.a. Formula Drifting, is a sport that's rapidly growing in popularity. Not so long ago - only a few years - it was introduced to North America with the creation of pro drifting racing. This racing organization is also known as the Formula Drift Championship. This race includes about 50 drivers competing for the right to be called the U.S. drifting champion. Just like any other pro racing events, they take place in a few different cities at various pro race tracks.
One of the venues is located in Sonoma , California . The name of that track is Infineon Raceway. Because of where it is located, it's growing in popularity. The location is San Francisco - only 28 miles away from the Golden Gate Bridge . Besides the Formula D, it also hosts the Indycar Series, Nascar Sprint Cup Series, National Hot Rod, American motorcycle association and NHRA Division 7. It is a year - round complex open 340 days and 50 weekends a year with 1.5 million visitors each year passing through its gates.
Formula D series also takes place at Road Atlanta. As the name suggests, it's located in Atlanta , Georgia . It is known globally as one of the premium race tracks of North America . Road Atlanta management are not resting on their laurels and continue to improve the track. With renovations done in 2004, they have added one more horseshoe turn just for the Formula D events. This turn improves on an already great track by adding one more extra degree of difficulty. Beside Formula D, this racetrack is also a host to various racing events like the Audi Driving Experience, AMA Suzuki Superbike Showdown, SCCA American Road Race of Champions and Ferrari Challenge.
Formula D series also makes a stop in Chicago , Illinois at Soldier Field - the football stadium. You might ask how is it possible to do a drifting event there. Actually, the event is staged just outside the walls of this Stadium - in the parking lot. Right before the event takes place, the lot is transformed into a great drifting race course. Even though it is technically not a track, the fan energy and enthusiasm is just the same or greater. The main reason for this event's popularity is because, apart from New Jersey , Formula D series does not have another location in the north-east area of the country.
Besides the venues that were mentioned above, the formula D series also stops in Wall New Jersey , Washington , Seattle , Long Beach and Irwindale California . In Irwindale, the event takes place at the Irwindale Speedway. In Wall, the action takes place at the Air Force Reserve Wall Speedway. In Long Beach , the event is hosted in the streets of Long Beach . Some of these events are held at well known tracks and others in city streets or parking lots.
Like we said before, the above mentioned venues were on the 2006 Formula D calendar. In a few years, extra tracks may be added or some of the old ones excluded.
